Near Alves, between Elgin and Forres, Glenburgie traces its roots to 1810, when it went by the name Kilnflat. In the 1930s it was run by Margaret Nichol, thought to be the first woman to manage a whisky distillery. Rebuilt almost from scratch in 2004, it kept only its stills, and most of its fresh, fruity spirit goes into Ballantine's. Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard).
