About Fettercairn
At the foot of the Grampians, in the Howe of the Mearns, Fettercairn was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay in a converted corn mill. The estate later passed to the Gladstones, whose son William, the Victorian prime minister, reformed the taxing of whisky. A copper ring around the stills drenches them with water to purify the spirit, which emerges nutty and tropical-fruited. The unicorn on the label is the Ramsays'. Whyte & Mackay's.
