At Bowling, on the Clyde, Littlemill has a fair claim to be Scotland's oldest licensed distillery: a datestone of 1772, and an excise licence of 1773. In 1823 it had one of the first female licensees, and in the 1930s experimental stills with rectifying columns let it make three styles, from peated to light. Closed in 1994, it burned in 2004. Its last casks are now treasured. Lost.
