About Glengoyne

Just north of Glasgow at Dumgoyne, Glengoyne sits astride an old boundary in the most literal way: the stills stand in the Highlands, while the whisky sleeps in warehouses across the road in the Lowlands. Founded in 1833 and worked continuously ever since, it is famously unhurried, running its spirit slowly and using barley dried by air rather than peat smoke, so not a wisp of smoke reaches the glass. The result is a bright, sherried, honeyed Highland style. Independently owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, it is one of the prettiest and most visited distilleries in Scotland, a green glen with a waterfall behind the stills.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottles single casks under numeric codes rather than distillery names, so a label reading 123.403 means cask 403 from distillery 123. That distillery is Glengoyne, in Highland. More on Glengoyne at Wikipedia.
