About Glenfiddich

William Grant and his children raised Glenfiddich stone by stone in Dufftown, coaxing the first spirit from its stills on Christmas Day 1887. Still in family hands five generations on, it was the distillery bold enough, in the 1960s, to send single malt out into the world as a drink in its own right, and it became the best-selling of them all. The name means Valley of the Deer; the whisky runs fresh and green, all cut grass and crisp pear.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottles single casks under numeric codes rather than distillery names, so a label reading 15.403 means cask 403 from distillery 15. That distillery is Glenfiddich, in Speyside. More on Glenfiddich at Wikipedia.
